I FOUND A FEMALE THE LAST WEEK OF OCTOBER IN OHIO AND DECIDED TO TAKE HER
IN WITH THE COMING WEATHER. AFTER A FEW DAYS SHE LAYED HER EGGS. THINKING
SHE  PROBABLY MATED THIS LATE IN THE SEASON I THOUGHT ABOUT ALLOWING THEM TO
HATCH TO  HELP ME WITH MY PROBLEM. I HAVE A VERY LARGE ARRAY OF PLANTS THAT I
BRING IN  DURING THE WINTER. I ALWAYS NEED TO FIGHT THE MEALY BUGS AND
APHIDS IN ORDER FOR  THE PLANTS TO SURVIVE. WOULD THESE SERVE AS FOOD FOR THE
YOUNG PRAYING MANTIS?  ANY OTHER THOUGHTS?

I have a small PM that is holding on to our back sliding door. He has been there for
about a week. Can he survive this way? Should I place him on a shrub? Can he
withstand the cold temperatures? If not, what should I do with him?
Thank you.

I bought a praying mantis egg case in spring, hatched it, and released the babies
outside.  I saw a few during the summer, and was happy that some had survived.
While cleaning the plant debris, straightening the garden this fall, I found
several egg cases.  I cut them off the debris (didn't want to throw them away!) and
would like to store them for the winter.  Do I put the eggs in the refrigerator,
freezer, just leave them outside?  I would like to transfer some to my summer home
in spring as well, so don't want to just put them back in the (now bare) garden.
I live in northern Illinois.
Thank you!
Gloria

Hi there!  We ended up with a Praying Mantis a couple of weeks ago.
His name is Charlie and we have been fascinated by him and really
enjoying him.  We have been trying to take care of him feeding him meal
worms and we have him in an aquarium-type container with branches and a
shallow bowl of rocks and water.  Well he hatched an egg case
yesterday!  Amazing!  My husband did not count the belly segments quite
right!  We would like to help the babies but it is Fall here in Rhode
Island with Winter temps at night.  Should I get the babies outside so
they don't hatch until Spring?  If I keep them inside won't the house
heat make them hatch too early?  And what should I keep them in so they
don't go all over the house?  Should I get them away from Charlie -
would she eat the egg case?  Does Charlie need anything special and
will she live?  Thank you for any advice!
Take care
Leanna V

We have had a mantis since early October and recently she layed an egg case, should
we detach it and place it outside or store in frig until spring.  Will the Mantis
die after laying eggs?

Thanks,
Cj

Hi, I have my second praying mantis on my upstairs screen door. The last one
eventually crawled down and stayed close to the ground and eventually died.  It died
in about 2 weeks.  Why are these winding up on my screen door? I'm assuming they've
laid eggs and are dying?  Any info would be appreciated??

Hi! I live in colorado and a brown mantis wondered up..she lived in my
greenhouse for months..and left an egg case..she was brown. Can the eggs
survive outside here, or should i bring them inside? Or will that make them
hatch early? Thankyou for the info! Rachael
